ABOUT THE ROLE

This position will be responsible for leading AFL Victoria’s strategic direction by implementing the National Game Development strategy in Victoria. Focusing on the key pillars of Auskick, School, Community Football, Transition/ Retention, the role will aim to increase and grow Indigenous and Multicultural participation across our key participation programs.

The role will provide extra direction for initiatives that ensure we retain, support and transition Indigenous and Multicultural participants through the playing pathway and provide opportunities for participants to experience Coaching and Umpiring programs.

The AFL is committed to promoting and protecting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in our care. The AFL undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children in its care.

Please note, employment in this position is subject to the successful candidate holding a Valid Working with Children Check and a satisfactory criminal history record check.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Build and maintain stakeholder relationships, engagement, and support Indigenous and Multicultural partner organisations across Victoria
Provide cultural advice and leadership across NAB AFL Auskick, School Programs, Community Football
Analyse population data to support Indigenous & Multicultural participation growth in the NAB AFL Auskick and Community Football pathways
Support NGA Community pathway with the management of the Victorian Kickstart and All Nations program
Support employment pathways for Indigenous & Multicultural people through AFL Victoria’s employment network
Support the roll out of Victoria’s Indigenous Carnivals.
Lead internal education and support the roll out of Rule 35 across Community Football
Connect participation programs with Coaching and Umpiring opportunities for Indigenous & Multicultural people
Support funding applications and partnership agreements associated with AFL Victoria’s Indigenous & Multicultural Programs.

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

Previous experience in a similar role
Strong knowledge, experience and understanding of Indigenous communities and cultures
Strong knowledge and understanding of CaLD communities
Demonstrated ability to communicate and negotiate across culturally diverse groups
Strong analytical, negotiation and leadership skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of sporting pathways – community to elite
