The City of Melbourne has a new Community Development Branch that is responsible for embedding community development principles and practice across the organisation. Our vision is to enable a just, inclusive and sustainable society where communities are empowered to meaningfully engage, participate and shape their own city. We are taking a place-based approach to how we understand and work with and for our communities, and look to create more value for community through our everyday work as we drive an inclusive and sustainable long-term recovery from Covid-19.

The Policy and Capability Building Team works to build the capacity and capability of CoM staff and the community. The team utilise internal levers and those of our partners and stakeholders to develop and deliver programs that lead to a more empowered community with increased agency based on community development principles and practice. The team are responsible for the development and delivery of policy that aims to progress inclusion across CoM and in community.

Reporting to the Practice and Capability Lead, the Project Coordinator is responsible for the management of whole-of-organisation change projects that focus on capability building in collaboration with members of the Policy and Capability Building Team. The positon will engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects use community-centred approaches and are designed to respond to the opportunities and needs identified by CoM staff and community.

The Project Coordinator will deliver projects that support capability building at CoM and with community and key projects include:

piloting social procurement initiatives in partnership with the Procurement Branch
piloting inclusive employment opportunities, working with relevant branches and teams
review and enhancement of community funding programs to deliver better impact
design of a CoM staff volunteering program in partnership with the Senior Volunteering Lead

Selection criteria for this position 

Demonstrated experience in business administration, project management, human services or a related field. Understanding of community development processes and objectives and experience working with diverse stakeholders, desirable.
Advanced project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects from development to delivery, monitor and assess risks and manage issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation and facilitation.
Highly developed organisational skills, including the ability to act with initiative and design solutions for the coordination of projects using advanced problem solving skills and an ability to manage project priorities.
Ability to be flexible, adaptable and innovative within a changing environment and achieve high quality outcomes.
