The City of Melbourne has a new Community Development Branch that is responsible for embedding community development principles and practice across the organisation. We want to better understand our communities and their priorities and build more empowered and engaged communities as we drive an inclusive and sustainable long-term recovery from Covid-19. Our vision is to enable a just, inclusive and sustainable society where communities are empowered to meaningfully engage, participate and shape their own city. The new branch will enhance the City’s ways of working with community, building on the strong foundations already in place. We are taking a place-based approach to how we understand and work with and for our communities, and look to create more value for community through our everyday work.

The Strategy and Projects team is the ‘engine room’ that will enable the Branch to run smoothly and achieve its intended outcomes. The team will be responsible for change management and related communications, evidence and measurement, coordinating branch systems and processes and governance support.

The Branch Coordinator will lead a team to deliver on the following priorities:

Play a lead role in coordinating branch reporting requirements and work closely with the Governance Branch and the Community and City Services Directorate Team to manage timelines in line with branch objectives.
Collaborate with all teams to improve branch workflow for effective management of all branch projects and actions from City of Melbourne’s Council Plan.
Coordinate project support and effective high level administrative support to the Director and Community Development Leadership Team and work with the EA to the Director to assist in prioritisation of meetings and workflow.
Provide administrative support, including drafting briefing notes, preparation of meeting materials, presentations and correspondence. Administrative duties will include completing financial management and reporting tasks.
Perform other duties as required by the Manager, Strategy and Projects to deliver on the organisation’s community development approach.

The Brach Coordinator will assist the team to hold a helicopter view of the Branch to make useful connections, share learnings, identify opportunities for efficiencies and support the Community Development Leadership Team to assess the effectiveness of the Branch and functions to inform continuous improvement.

You can bring (Selection criteria)

Relevant experience in a field such as project management or business administration.
Strong writing skills and demonstrated experience with governance processes and report writing, especially in a local government or equivalent setting.
Advanced project management skills, including managing risks and business continuity plans and the ability to manage multiple projects from conception and briefing to delivery.
Highly developed organisational skills, including a close attention to detail and the ability to act with initiative to design solutions to manage branch priorities.
Relevant experience in areas of budgeting, financial analysis and financial reporting.
