Animal Health Officer

$63,646 – $87,245 (Plus Superannuation)
Fixed Term – 2 years
Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available)
Usual work location: Tatura (flexibility may be available)

This is a prioritised position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with the Special Measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic). Reporting to the District Veterinary Officer – Tatura, the key accountabilities of the role include:

Monitor livestock for compliance with the Acts and Regulations administered by the AHW Branch.
Plan and conduct work activities in accordance with the major animal health projects and their associated procedures.
Implement animal disease control programs according to the Livestock Disease Control Act.
Promote sound animal welfare practices, according to Codes of Practice and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Participate in the Department’s emergency preparedness and response activities.
Completion of the authorised officer training program and attainment of gazettal as an Inspector or Authorised Officer under the Livestock Disease Control Act, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Stock (Seller Liability and Declaration) Act and Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) Act.

Animal Health Officers are required to fulfil surveillance and auditing roles which provide knowledge of the disease and residue status of Victoria’s livestock industries. This information is a key component in maintaining access to markets for Victorian livestock and livestock products, and in mitigating the economic and social effects of disease and residue incidents in Victoria.

The position of Animal Health Officer forms a part of the Animal Health and Welfare unit, Biosecurity and Agriculture Services branch within the Agriculture Victoria group.

The Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) branch designs and delivers services, provides technical advice and influences policy to support the agriculture sector to achieve sustainable growth while managing risks and minimising adverse impacts to the economy, environment and public health and safety.
